WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO PUT A TITLE?

Ryan always seems to call at the most inopportune times. Today it was while I was loading a LARGE bag of soil into my trunk at Home Depot. I talked to him on the drive back home, and let him hear Izzie’s cough. He was pretty worried and upset, and that made me sad, even though it was really sweet of him to worry about us. 7 days and counting!

Kinda of a weird day, that started with all that doggie coughing. Then, when I got to work, I found out we’d been robbed this weekend. We don’t think they even came over to my side of the office, but they did steal a laptop and mess up a few desks. Very weird. I was very happy that the landlord changed all the locks today. Don’t think I’ll be working late alone anymore (not that I did much anyways!)

I’m missing reading my normal blogs. Stop being too busy to document your lives people, and get blogging. This means you – Amy, Luke and Sarmad!

SICK AS A DOG

I had another great weekend! Friday night I went out to dinner with Jen, Ryan, Jen and Kim. We went out to celebrate Jen’s 29th birthday!

Happy Birthday Jen!!!

On Saturday, I did some housework, grocery shopping, etc. Fun stuff. However, I did make it to Ben’s house for dinner with Ben, Molly & Pat and then over to Stefania‘s 3rd annual extravaganza where I enjoyed good company, good food and fireworks from her beautiful deck.
I would have taken pictures, but my camera battery died!

On Sunday, Colleen and I went to visit Beverly and Chris at their lake house on Pachaug Pond. Izzie had a hard time relaxing on the leash on the shore. She didn’t trust me and thought I was going to pull her in (ok maybe I tried once or twice). But she was a natural on the boat. On the way out, she sat up front and enjoyed the wind. When we put out the anchor in the middle and went for a dip, she really wanted to come in too, but couldn’t work up the nerve. She goes in the water, but only goes as far out as she can stand. She took a nice snooze on the way back to shore. Thanks to Beverly and Chris, and Chris’ parents for the hospitality!

Now to the title of the post. My little baby dog is sick. I didn’t even know dogs got sick, except for eating too much grass. She’s been going to doggie day care for the last week, since Ryan’s been gone. Last week, there was a notice up on the door to alert us that a dog had come in with a cold, and if our dog had symptoms to keep them home. Well last night Izzie came down with what I think is Kennel Cough. At this point, the vet says they don’t need to see her, but no doggie play dates for 1-2 weeks! I won’t be able to bring her to Jenna’s on Wednesday, bummer! I felt so bad for her last night, I let her sleep in bed with me (don’t tell Ryan)!

IT WAS A VERY GOOD DAY . . .

Yesterday was a pretty good day. I had my annual review at work, which was very positive and motivating. Book Club at Colleen’s was great. I got to see her new kitchen – which looks fabulous, and catch up with those I hadn’t seen in about a month. I got some quality Luke-holding time in and I got to take home some beautiful hydranga blooms from Colleen’s garden.

Also this week, Gretchen called and we spent about an hour on the phone catching up. We made plans for us to go up to New Hampshire to see them for Labor Day weekend (they’re moving up the weekend prior). I’m looking forward to some hiking, and introducing our dogs and watching them play together.

Last night, I got pretty much all of our wedding pictures sorted into piles in anticipation of choosing pictures for an album. Now I just need to sort through the piles and make smaller piles.

Check out the picture below of baby’s first bookclub!

HOW LONG UNTIL OUR ANNIVERSARY?

We had a fabulous weekend in Gainesville!!!

We hung out with lots of great family, friends and family of family. My parents, Ryan and I stayed at the Sweetwater Inn (where we had our wedding reception).

Roger & Beth threw a great BBQ on Friday for Kristen & Ben.
At dusk, Ryan, Jess, Evelyn, Dan & I went to watch the bats come out of the bat house at UF. There are over 60,000 of them living in this bat house.
Saturday morning we planned to go to the Butterfly Gardens, but didn’t want to brave the rain, so we went to the Natural History Museum instead. My favorite part was the gigantic shark jaws – some of which were found (or at least the teeth) in the St. John’s River.

Evelyn’s favorite part was the mirror in the bathroom.

Ben & Kristen’s wedding ceremony was just perfect. They had audience participation, a realistic and beautiful ceremony which dissussed not only love, but the challenges people will no doubt face in their marriage, and how a wonderful marriage comes from being a partner with your best friend. It was very personal and the music was so beautiful.

The reception was a lot of fun. The cake was wonderful, and the grooms cake (cookies and milk)was my favorite!
The ya-ya’s hosted a delicious Sunday brunch. The newlyweds are off to Jamaica. I’m wishing our honeymoon never ended, but we’re already hoping/planning to take a trip for our first anniversary!

(more pics from Ben & Kristen’s wedding weekend below)

Congrats to the Newlyweds!!!

WORDLE

I stole this link from Stefania. For the text, I put in our wedding ceremony. I really like how it came out. I especially like that our names are in Orange & Blue! It looks kindof crappy because I had to stretch the image, but if you click on it, it will take you to the full size image.

IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE HEAT, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN

The A/C is broken at work. It’s been broken since Monday. It is unbelievably warm, stuffy, humid, blah, blah, blah in here. I can’t stop compaining, I can’t focus, I am getting nothing done. The property management company brought in portable A/C units, but they just aren’t doing it. It’s too large of an area. My head hurts. I am sweaty, sticky and stinky. This could go on for 2 more weeks they said. To make matters worse, my office is directly above the kitchen of a mexican restaurant.

We’re heading to Florida tomorrow for Ben & Kristen’s wedding. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone, to being present for their marriage, and to living it up in Gainesville, but I am NOT looking forward to the heat.

I think the weather here is bad, but it’s going to be nothing compared to Florida:

HAPPY 4th OF JULY

We had a great 4th of July weekend! After a crazy day at work on Thursday, we headed up to New Hampshire to see my Aunt Ginny & Uncle Rick. We also saw my cousins Will & Dan, Dan’s wife Jess and their new baby (3 mos. old), Evelyn. Izzie had a fabulous time swimming in the pond and frolicking in the tall hay. On the fourth, we went to the kids parade in Contoocook (forgot my camera!) where kids decorate their bikes and ride in a parade – so cute. Then we hung around for the regular parade (very small). Then we went over to Houston Field for hamburgers. We also enjoyed a cookout at Cathy’s house and a private fireworks display. On Saturday, my parents enjoyed working the farmers’ market with Rick & Jess. Dan played guitar and even sang a song or two! On our way to get Ethiopian food on Saturday night in Hartford, my Dad’s van broke down. We ended up watching the Manchester fireworks while we waited for my dad to ride home with the tow truck guy and come back to pick us up. Today, we walked to the Coventry farmers’ market with Jen & Harley and got lots of goodies – kettle corn, goat cheese, red leaf lettuce, fudge, and more! We enjoyed a cookout at Jen & Ryan’s house with both of their parents.
Oh, and because my dad’s van is for sh*t now, they’ll be staying in CT indefinitely, until they get a new transmission. This is great for me, except that we’re flying to Florida on Thursday for Ben & Kristen’s wedding. It’ll take them two days to drive home, and have none of the clothes they need for the wedding, so if they don’t leave by Wednesday am, we may have to start thinking about flying them home so they can make it to the wedding. I guess we’ll see tomorrow when my dad takes the van in.
So, except for that, it was a great weekend, why does it have to end? Thank you ancestors, for fighting for our Independence and allowing me to have a 3-day weekend. And of course, thank you to those who continue to ensure our freedom!

In the picture above, I had a hard time capturing Izzie running in the hay grass – she was so fast!

PS. I also enjoyed assessing how awesome my garden is doing, and noticing the first bloom (of many to come) on our day lilies.

I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A NIGHT OWL

Lately, I am conflicted. When I am tired, I am unbelievably, uncomfortably
tired. Lots of headaches, grumpiness and some problems seeing when I’m
really tired. I feel like it’s getting better though. However, on the flip side, I’m obsessive about starting laundry or picking up the house at about 9:30pm. And I also always want to do those kinds of things in the morning before work. I guess when I don’t have the time is when I want the time, and when I do have the time, I am just tired and lazy.

INTRODUCING . . . LUKE HENRY

I had a GREAT weekend! I started it out on Friday after work with a visit to the hospital to meet Jenna and Brian’s new baby boy Luke Henry. I was lucky enough to arrive when they were learning how to change his diaper after his recent (like 3 hours before!) circumcision. OUCH! I think I’ll have all girls. Seriously though, he is beautiful, just beautiful. Luke Henry was born at 2:05pm on Thursday, June 26th. He weighs in at 7 lbs even and is 19.5 inches long. Here’s Jenna with their new baby boy, Luke.

On Saturday, my parents, Ryan and I went to breakfast at Pastrami on Wry, on a hike up Case Mountain (with Izzie of course), to the Westfarms Mall, to Abyssinian Ethiopian Restaurant for dinner and to Tisane for chocolate fondue for dessert. On Sunday, we took Izzie to the park, and then picked up Jim and Suzie at the Bridgeport Ferry and met up with Ruth, Chuck and Mimi at Olive Garden for a yummy lunch. Jim and Mimi are friends of my dad’s from the Peace Corp, where they were all in Ethiopia together. Tonight, I finished my book club book, Escape, watched Ryan play soccer with Izzie and just sat around out back – it’s been a great weekend! I can’t wait to see Luke again soon!

CHOOSING SIDES

I really didn’t make a decision between Obama and Hilary. I really didn’t feel strongly either way. I’m finally ready to endorse Obama. I know it’s a shock. You’ll soon see me driving around town with this bumper magnet. I just can’t commit to a bumper sticker. Hey at least it’s better than the taped on Kerry bumper sticker I used to have.

I’m going to visit Jenna, Brian and new baby Luke at Saint Francis Hospital tonight. I am SOOOO excited. I’ll have to see if I have permission to post pics of their baby before they’ve even had a chance to email them out!
