WHY DO I FEEL GUILTY?

Today I got a sandwich from Au Bon with A LOT of dirt in it, folded up in the lettuce. I purposely didn’t take a picture, because I knew I would be tempted to post it. I am having trouble letting it go. It was really gross. Janet called the Manager and he came to our office. I kinda yelled at him. I don’t think I was too far out of line. He tried to make an excuse that they were probably busy and didn’t have time to wash the lettuce, and that while they are supposed to wash it, it is triple pre-washed before they get it. He gave us a bunch of free catering, which really doesn’t do me any good, since I am never eating there again. I called and made a verbal complaint with the Hartford Health Department. I don’t think this is out of line. I think it’s important to have those kind of things on file, so that if it ever happens again, they have a record. And sounds like they might need an inspection. Also, I just sent an email to their corporate feedback contact on their website. I don’t think I took it too far. God knows if I screwed up like that, my clients would take it to my boss. So, why do I feel so guilty? (And a little scared that the scary manager is going to come murder me at my house?)

I HEART THE WEEKEND, PART DEUX

We had a busy Sunday. In addition to the dinner and movie date night (see last post), I also went to the Group Kick Fall ’08 Launch with Jen, had a visit with Luke, Jenna & Brian (playdate for Izzie & Max, and went on a hike up Case Mountain to peep the leaves.

I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED THIS FROM A WAL-MART COMPANY

We had a dinner and a movie date tonight. Dinner was hotdogs & pizza at Sam’s Club and the movie was Burn After Reading. The movie was pretty good. Anyhow, I know I shouldn’t shop at Wal-Mart, it’s a horrible place that doesn’t take good care of their employees, and puts small businesses out of business. It’s just so darn cheap. And I always feel like I am getting a deal at Sam’s Club (from Sam Walton – or whatever his name was/is). I mean, I just have to have that 25lb bag of flour, now that we’re making our own bread. Well, when we got our dinner, I was sad to see that they now have Styrofoam cups. I thought Chic-fil-a was the last hold out using Styrofoam cups. I remember my mom would buy me chic-fil-a, but we’d have to go somewhere else in the food court for a drink, because she refused to allow us to drink out of Styrofoam cups. Well, when we sat down to eat, I saw that the cup said this on the side:

When choosing a foam cup over paper or plastic, we considered the environmental impact of raw materials, manufacturing, shipping and disposal. We believe we have made the most responsible decision but we’re in search of an even better alternative. If you have a viable, alternative option with a smaller environmental footprint, please email your idea to cafecup@samsclub.com. Together, we can create a more sustainable Sam’s Club. Thank You! Learn more at samsclub.com/sustainability

Now, I don’t know that much about this, but it just seems fishy. It seems like they are saying, it has less on an environmental impact to make and dispose of Styrofoam, but they aren’t taking into account that it takes 20,000 years for a Styrofoam cup to disintegrate. I found a good article on this. I think the reason manufacturing and disposing of Styrofoam has less impact on the environment is probably because manufacturing and disposing of paper and plastic involves recycling. But I feel like in the long run, Styrofoam is still worse. Who knows?!

MY DOG MUST HATE ME

I would love to dress my dog up for every season. But this is the only thing that Ryan allows Izzie to wear. Go Gators!

Fat Dog in a Little Jersey! (Thanks Grandpa!)

Jackie and Chris came over to watch the game. They are such loyal Gator Fans! Even though Jackie doesn’t have mono and lyme disease like last season, she still falls asleep every week :)

I HEART WEEKENDS, PART 1

Ryan and I took a drive down some country roads out to his gig. I wandered the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University in the beautiful fall weather. I listened to my husband play.  It’s been a good weekend so far. I baked blueberry muffins, bread and brownies this morning. the bass. While we were driving home, I couldn’t decide which trees are my favorite. I love the red ones, I love the orange ones, I love the yellow ones! We took our dog on a trip to the neighborhood park. And we’re getting ready to fry some fish, bake some sweet potatoes and cheer for the Gators! This is part one, because I plan to take pictures of our play date with Max tomorrow. And of Luke of course!

PS. I really enjoyed Confessions of a Young Married Couple today. I swear the exact same situation happens when we try to leave Izzie out of her crate at night. I even read it out loud to Ryan. The girl is hilarious. Colleen was just saying the other day that she had the same Halloween candy dilemma last year! If you’re not following this blog, you should! Oh and a shout out to Colleen, great blog about Tom Brady!

BAH HUMBUG

I was originally going to write about Fall, and how much I love fall. I’ve been admiring the leaves for days now, and it was really putting me in a great mood. . . until this morning. Now, I feel like the glory of fall is lost on me, because all I can think about is prepping for winter. I was happy to have spent last night cleaning the garage with Ryan’s help, so I can fit my car inside to keep it safe from the snow. What I am not happy about is that I took my car in today for some winterization, and I am now $2k in the hole. I expected $500, maybe even $800, but this is outrageous. I can now say I am feeling the bad economy. Until now, I felt like it was looming, but not really affecting me yet. Now, I feel like I will never eat out again, like I should start selling my stuff on e-bay, or that I should get a second job. I don’t even have kids to support! How depressing! Time to tighten the purse strings even more. I promise to try to get back into Fall soon, really I do.

THE MUCH ANTICIPATED (YEAH RIGHT) VACATION BLOG

It’s only been a week, and it feels like I need another vacation already. Anyhow, here’s the rundown of the week, with some pictures. I was really a slacker and didn’t take many pics. Some of these are stolen from Andrea – thanks Dre!

We got in on Saturday, and spent the weekend with our families. I neglected to take any pictures of my nieces, because I am a horrible Aunt. I did take a few pictures on a boat ride with my dad.

Here’s the view of my childhood house, from the water.

Here’s my dad in his boat.

On Monday, we headed up to the Cocoa Beach area to hang out with the Fritzs for a few days. We had a great time relaxing, going to the beach and going to the pool.

Julie and Fritz’s neighborhood has wild peacocks everywhere!
Their feathers were still a little raggedy from the recent hurricane.

On Thursday, we went back south to Ft. Lauderdale (see other post).

On Friday, we had a little C/O ’98 reunion at Erika’s house. All 6 of us girls were able to make it with our significant others, babies & dogs (minus Izzie, as she is not flight-ready).Sam & Rafael (down from Savannah, GA)
Erika, Mac & Juno (not pictured – dog, not baby! Numerous cats also not pictured.)

THE GIRL I STALK MAKES IT BIG

I know, I still haven’t blogged about my vacation to Florida. It’ll be next, I promise. I’m taking a break from cleaning (over organizing my closet in a desperate attempt to avoid vacuuming). A while back my cousin Amy sent me a link to this hilarious blog called Confessions of a Young Married Couple. I started reading it and enjoyed it so much, that I passed it along to some of my office-mates and now we all enjoy reading and discussing. Well, I am happy to report that the blog has been picked up by capessa.com and she will also be blogging here. I seriously recommend you check out her normal blog, or her new blog. She is hilarious. She says all the things I’d like to say, but I am afraid my husband might divorce me for saying in writing.

PRELUDE TO THE BLOG ABOUT MY VACATION

I am getting this out now, so I don’t have to have it in my vacation blog. It is a blemish on my good-girl reputation, and I am not proud of it. I got kicked out of a Marlin’s baseball game. And in the first inning! It was pouring and there were about 10 people in the crowd, seriously. Ok maybe I am exaggerating a little. But seriously, you could count how many people were in the stands. There is an entire section right above us, with about 5 people in it, literally. So, I am sitting there with my head cold, getting rained on and I am seeing everyone jump the fence to the covered section. It wasn’t a fancy section, no fancy seats, everything the same, except these people aren’t getting rained on. So, Ryan and I (or so I thought) agreed to jump the fence like everyone else. Except only I go, and hence only I get kicked out of the stadium. Seriously, these games have been averaging just over 500 people, and you are going to kick one of those people out for wanting to not get rained on!? Way to ruin the evening, Jenn. I offered to wait in the car, but Ryan left with me and we were back at the B & B at about 9pm. The B & B that I paid $120 for and only booked because we didn’t want to drive back to WPB tired late at night after the game. Fabulous. Anyhow, rest of vacation is going well. Although WPB never feels like a vacation to me, and always comes with baggage. I am just happy to have a week off of work. Picture blog (not many) to come, once I am back in good ol’ CT. I miss my dog.

OUR TRIP TO EFFINGHAM

I left work at 2:30pm on Friday. It felt very liberating! I didn’t feel guilty at all, I just felt great to be taking the time off that I have earned. We headed up to Effingham, NH to visit G&G. We got there just in time for a home cooked lobster and mussel dinner – yum! On Saturday, we hiked in Conway and ate lunch by Echo Lake. We shopped at a cute doggie store. Izzie got a reflective orange vest for walking at night (I tried to convince Ryan I might jog with her at night, and that’s why we had to have it). I could not talk him into the adorable down vests that Happy and Banjo got! We even took a peek at Mud Bowl. We ate yummy thai food for dinner and watched Into the Wild while listening to Tropical Storm Hannah outside. It poured all night Saturday night, but stopped in time for us to go to the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival this morning. I accidentally got my base burn for Florida next week! We had a great weekend hanging with G&G and their brood of animals out in the country and can’t wait to see them all again!

Izzie carries her own water when we hike!

Izzie actually swam!
