Farm Day

Our local children’s museum does an annual farm day fundraiser. This is our second year attending. It’s at a local dairy farm that makes its own ice cream and the day boasts all you can eat ice cream!

It was tough to keep S from hugging all of the animals.

It was also tough to keep S out of the bounce houses. We compromised and let her go down the slide with supervision.

I think this was the first time M got her face painted. It’s a unicorn, in case you can’t tell ;)

First Day of School – Toddler Program

Tuesday was S’s first day at the Montessori school that M attended last year. She is transitioning in, so she has gone an hour a day each day this week so far. They’ve accelerated her transition and she’ll go for almost a half day on her third day tomorrow. She seems to be doing great so far, even if she was in tears both mornings. She’s already brought us home a beautiful painting and shown her new teachers how much she loves snack.

M wanted to wait to go to her classroom so she could walk with S down to her new classroom.

Cousins

My cousin had a baby back in November and we’ve finally gotten all three girls together! Isn’t Miss Olivia adorable – she has the most beautiful eyes!

A Girl and Her Dog

Lately I’ve been noticing S going over to Izzie, sitting down next to her and leaning up against her. It could be one of the most adorable things ever.

Big Girl Bed

When M was about 2 years old, we moved her out of the crib and into the toddler bed. She wasn’t climbing out of the crib or anything, but we knew we’d be needing the crib for the new baby (S!). We wanted to be sure those two things (getting kicked out of your crib and getting a little sister) were two unrelated things, so we made the transition with lots of time to spare. It went really well. We’ve been offering her a twin size bed for a while, but she’s said she’s fine with her little bed. It seems that as soon as she turned four she decided she’s ready. This transition was absolutely seamless and we really love having the bigger bed so we can really cuddle up with her at bedtime.

Great Grandparents

This picture was posted to Facebook by one of my mom’s cousins. It’s my mom’s mom’s parents. According to my mom’s cousin, the photo was taken August 9, 1914 of Freda Jane Roadruck and Alonzo (Lon) Pickering. They were married the following November 12th. I remember meeting both of them when I was younger and I attended the 100th birthday celebration of my Great Grandpa Pickering in St. Anne, Illinois.

4 Years Old

There’s a post coming about what we did on M’s actual birthday, but I wanted to get her four year stats posted ASAP. Here she is in an adorable dress from Uncle Michael and Aunt Kim in Florida. She loves purple and it was actually a little cool on the day this arrived (in August, I can’t even believe it?!) so she put it right on!

Tough Love at Swim Lessons

On Wednesday we started private swim lessons for M. She has a male teacher and he was just not letting her get away from not putting her head under the water. He started the very first lesson with that and she was having a tough time with it. She kept looking over at me with her eyes all full of tears she was trying so hard to hold back. It was really tough to watch. But after talking to a few people, I really feel better about it and realize it’s probably better if I just watch from far away where she can’t see me. She started to loosen up after they did some other things that were more fun for her. She wasn’t too crazy about putting the back of her head in to float, but she looks great in this photo! It’s very weird to not have my kids growing up in Florida with regular daily access to a pool where they can learn and practice swimming. I do feel that learning to swim is really important for kids so private lessons might be the way go for us. We’ll see.

Make Way For Ducklings: Boston Birthday

When I was about four I loved the book Make Way for Ducklings and when we were in Boston, my parents took me to the Public Gardens. My mom had the great idea to take M there for her birthday! She hadn’t read the book, so we got a copy from the library a few days before and starting hyping up the trip. M didn’t disappoint – she had a great time feeding the ducks and riding the swan boats. We drove over for the morning, walked around the park, rode on a swan boat, had lunch, braved the rain to run back to the car and were home by mid-afternoon. I love living so close to so many great places!
