FRIDAY NIGHT TIDBITS

My random thoughts for today. Pretend like you are interested.

My Hair:
I’m going to get a haircut tomorrow. I’m going to a real salon, because the woman who did my hair for the wedding (in FL) said Supercuts gave me a ghetto haircut. Not that it looked bad, but they cut the underside shorter, or something. Whatever. So, I’m doing what I do everytime I have a real hair appt, which is like once a year – I’m contemplating getting an actual haircut/style, instead of just a trim.

Time Off:
I’m considering going to West Palm for my 10 year HS reunion in August. I don’t think I’d go if my parents didn’t still live there, but it’s a good excuse to get down to visit them. Ryan mentioned going to visit Julie & Fritz, which sounds fabulous, but I just don’t have enough days I can take off. Especially considering I am already in the hole 3 days for next year, since I had food poisoning. Depressing. I don’t wish not to work, I just wish I had more freedom in my life. Which brings me to my next item . . .

Getting Away:
On the drive into work this morning, I was thinking it would be fun for us to go to Boston for the weekend and hang out with Amy. But then I started feeling funny. We have a dog now, and I love her so much, but you can’t just go away like you can when you have only a cat. Which then makes me think about kids, and how you REALLY can’t just go away when you have kids . . . arggg. Which brings me to my next item …

Friends:
Had sushi with girls last night. It was so great to see everyone! Jenna is having a little baby boy so soon and I am so excited!

Sex & The City:
I want to see the movie, but am not caught up on the series. Oh well, I’ll probably see it anyway. All the cool kids are doing it. In fact, today at work, we went over to the Palace where they were giving away free movie tickets, margarita glasses, chapstick, keychains and raffle tickets for iPods & Manolos. Don’t hate, I like free stuff. We didn’t win any shoes, but John did win a S&TC DVD!

DO YOU REMEMBER?

Wow, I found my new favorite song. I know, I am so late jumping on the Jack Johnson bandwagon. Sharon’s been telling me about him for years I think. At work, we can access each others’ iTunes and I’ve been listening to Stefania’s all day.

This song is making me remember a lot of really great times with Ryan.

So . . . drumroll please . . . my new favorite song is . . . Do You Remember

Do you remember when we first met? I sure do
It was some time in early September
Though you were lazy about it, you made me wait around
I was so crazy about you, I didn’t mind

So I was late for class, I locked my bike to yours
It wasn’t hard to find, you’d painted flowers on
Guess that I was afraid that if you rolled away
You might not roll back my direction real soon

Well, I was crazy about you then and now
The craziest thing of all, over ten years have gone by
And you’re still mine, we’re locked in time
Let’s rewind

Do you remember when we first moved in together?
The piano took up the living room
You played me boogie-woogie I played you love songs
You’d say we’re playing house now you still say we are

We built our getaway up in a tree we found
We felt so far away though we were still in town
Now I remember watching that old tree burn down
I took a picture that I don’t like to look at

Well all these times they come and go
And alone don’t seem so long
Over ten years have gone by
We can’t rewind, we’re locked in time
But you’re still mine
Do you remember?

TWO GENERATIONS

Last night we took Izzie over to her mother’s house for a play date. Her mom, Libby, lives in Glastonbury. They had a great time, and it was great to see her back at her original home. I really wonder if she knows that Libby is her mom, or if she’s just a familiar dog to Izzie?

We had some rain around 5pm yesterday. It was great, pouring rain like they get in Florida. I suppose I was also reminded of home because it was so humid. I had hoped the evening would bring more thunder storms, but it did clear up. I love thunder storms, and they are so rare in New England.

I don’t feel bad this morning, but woke up feeling like I ran a few miles in my sleep. Weird. I certainly have run nowhere anytime recently, and for that I am ashamed. I need to get back to the gym, I need to get back to cooking, I need to get back to reading, I need to get back to me.

IT’S COMPLICATED

I am up too late tonight. I turned the TV on at 10pm to watch for just a few minutes, but got sucked into this new show – Denise Richards: It’s Complicated.

The woman has 2 kids, 10 dogs, and 3 pigs! I have set the DVR to record the rest of the season, because it looks like there may be piglets in Denise’s future. It doesn’t take much to get me interested – 10 dogs and some pigs – I mean come on!

Also caught the last few minutes of So You Think You Can Dance, per Amy’s suggestion. And I saw this:

I LOVE LONG WEEKENDS

Even though I had a 5 day weekend last weekend, that doesn’t count because I was sick! This weekend was great, and packed with lots of fun stuff. We celebrated Ryan’s 30th birthday with a good ol’ southern fish fry on Saturday. Thanks to Chris for fryin’ all the fish (and helping us prep the yard!), Amy for coming from Boston, and everyone else for helping us celebrate Ryan’s birth and for bringing beer (& other yummy goodies)! Ryan especially loved his ginormous beer glass from Lisa. We had a great time eating, drinking, playing with babies & dogs, playing horsehoes and relaxing by the fire.

We were lucky enough to have Amy visit from Boston for almost the entire weekend! On Sunday, we took her to Pastrami on Wry for breakfast, then to West Hartford Center & Blue Back Square, & enjoyed a late lunch at Tapas. (See pic of Ryan, pulling some statue’s finger).

On Memorial Day, Amy hit the road back to Boston and Ryan & I took Izzie to the Parade in Manchester. She was very well behaved until the parade started. She was nervous about the horses and REALLY didn’t like the marching bands. After we found a better spot about 20 feet back from the parade, she was much better and we stayed for the whole thing. On the drive home from the parade, I snapped a fun picture of Izzie with her head out of the window. After a nap, Chris and Elaine came over for burgers, dogs and more horseshoes. I got my garden all planted, minus the grape tomatoes (which I still have to buy) and the large tomatoes, which will go outside of the raised bed in an area that Ryan will clear for me.

AN OLD FAVORITE

I did end up staying home on Tuesday, and then AGAIN today! Gosh I love being sick and thinking about the fact that I am either not getting paid for these days, or I am using vacation days from next year. But I had a great, long, honeymoon – so I can’t complain. My plan is to go back to work tomorrow. I think I am going to buy most of the food for Ryan’s party, instead of preparing it myself like I planned. I’m thinking Black Eyed Sally’s – YUM!

Wish I would have thought about my old favorite show earlier in the day today. Several years ago I found the DVDs of the entire first and only season of My So-Called Life on Ebay and snatched them up for kindof an absurd amount of money. And of course, I haven’t watched them at all. But it allowed me to throw away the VHS tapes I made from when it re-aired on MTV after the network canceled it. I should have watched some of those today. Instead, I watched Rock of Love II Reunion Special. Anyhow, I was cyberstalking (ie reading the blogs from the links on blogs of people I actually know) and I came across this. Anyone who hasn’t watched the show will probably think it’s lame. But, if you loved the show like I did, it will bring back some memories. Enjoy.

It’s pretty exciting that I know how to link things!

SLOWING DOWN WAS NOT IN THE PLAN

This week was set to be a busy one, but I was sidelined by some food poisioning yesterday. Still feeling yucky. I stayed home from work today & might tomorrow too, depending on how I sleep tonight. It’s cute to see how worried the animals are about me, I think they can just tell when something isn’t right. Ryan and Chris got the horseshoe pit almost completed yesterday, but I accomplished nothing. Had so much I wanted/needed to do! It wouldn’t be a big deal, except Thursday is Ryan’s birthday, and we’re planning a big fish fry this weekend to celebrate his 30th! Ah well, at least I am hungry again – looking forward to some KFC mashed potatoes for dinner.

AT THE END OF A LONG DAY . . .

. . . This makes me happy. At the (almost) end of a long week, this makes me happy. I don’t know how it can feel like such a long day, such a long week, when time just flies. The days go by so fast, the weeks go by so fast, it’s the middle of the month and then it’s the beginning of another month. I feel like I should be stopping to smell the roses, but there’s just no time. I haven’t really been to the gym in probably over a month. Ryan’s been really busy working, and it’s recital season as well.

Anyhow, back to what makes me happy . . . we got Izzie the invisible fench from DogWatch of CT this week. They installed on Tuesday, and have been trainer her on it. She’s gotten “corrected” a few times, and I was “corrected” once, by accident and MUCH to my surprise. Apparently it’s worse for humans because we have sweat glads. Nonetheless (is that one word or hyphenated?), I never want to leave the yard again. Maybe I can use that as my excuse for missing work someday. She’s doing really well. Tonight she stayed in the yard as a very playful dog walked by with its owners. It’s been really nice to be able to take her outside with me when I am doing yard work, or just to let her wander around the backyard while I was eating dinner and reading on the porch. I am totally slacking on my book club book. It’s been one hell of a (less than a) week.

Edit: Wow, our yard really looks like crap in this picture. We have a lot of yard work to do!
