Motherhood, Ambition, Passion and Purpose

Somehow I clicked through someone’s blog somewhere and found out about the M.A.P.P. Gathering, a collection of intimate conversations with a handful of mothers who have followed their passion and are making a beautiful difference in the world.  M. A. P. P. stands for Motherhood, Ambition, Passion and Purpose.  I downloaded the interviews onto my iPhone and I’ve been listening to them to and from work for the last 2 weeks.  From listening to these, then clicking to these women’s blogs and the links on their blogs, I see that there is a huge huge huge community of mom bloggers out there, and a huge community of people who publish e-books and conduct online seminars around motherhood, simple living, sewing, cooking, you name it!  The internet is a truly wondrous place.  I’ve pulled just a few tidbits from the women involved and linked a few of their pages.  I’ve tagged this post “motherhood” and interestingly enough I’ve just created this category.  Strange that I haven’t thought to do so before now.

Remember that you never see anything in another that you do not have in yourself, whether positive or negative. That’s the beauty and healing of the mirror. Dr. Sara Gottfried

Why is it so easy to walk away from the things that are working and cling to the things that don’t! Brene Brown, PhD

Day by day, decision by decision, response by response, we are shaping the view on life that our children will take with them when they grow up and leave our homes as independent individuals. – Megan Tietz of SortaCrunchy (via MAPP contributor Tsh Oxenreider)  I’m considering buying Tsh’s e-book One Bite at a Time for only $5 – sounds like it might be some good motivation!

When you get consumed by work, family, parenting and just responding to what shows up in front of you moment to moment, it’s easy to forget how interesting, complex and dynamic we all are. Renee Trudeau

We are given the guidance we need so clearly!  Something, someone, keeps showing us, in very practical ways, exactly what we need to learn to be whole and free. We keep not seeing, we keep making it far more complicated than it needs to be, but never the less, that someone, that something, keeps trying. Jennifer Louden

Whatever the question, create is the answer.
Are you sad? Create.
Do you feel broken? Create.

Are you inspired? Create.
Are you bored? Create.
Are you angry? Create.
Want to grow a business? Create.
Want to stand out in your career? Create.
Pamela Slim

It can be so unconscious, the way we dream, one dream into the next, without coming up for air. The way we imagine something that feels out of reach and then by some miracle, actually find ourselves there. But instead of celebrating for a very long time, we immediately start striving again. You can see where this is going, right? Our ambition can be wonderful and also exhausting! The insatiable way we keep barreling forward, getting each duck in a row, and always looking to the next duck. – Andrea Scher

One of the best things we can do is become aware when we find ourselves overreacting to something and ask the question, “How did I get here?” Another good one is, “Why does this bother me so much?” – Kim Trobee, Associate Pastor of Women’s Groups at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado (via MAPP Contributor Jill Savage)

Because you see me clearly (and I see you). Because you inspire me to love deeply. Because you celebrate my courage yet nurture my tender heart pieces. Because you are my memories. Because you always know what to say (and when to simply listen). Because you know my heart, and I know yours. Because we are side by side, heart to heart in this life journey. Because I count my lucky stars for you, every single day.

Spring Preview

We enjoyed a beautiful spring tease of a day on Thursday. We went for a nice little walk and M found a beautiful flower. We taught her to smell it and then she tried to eat it.

Orange, Sesame, Peanut Noodles

Tried another Whole Food Kitchen recipe tonight – Orange, Sesame, Peanut Noodles.  It was another hit.  I have to tell you, I’m loving all the recipes I’m trying, but I am avoiding the recipes that are full of Kale and Beans.  I’ll have to move on to those soon.

Apple & Oat Breakfast Cake and Chicken & Spinach Stir Fry

Two recipes in one day again!  What a great Sunday spent with family.  These were both awesome as usual.  Recipes from Whole Food Kitchen, and I can’t share them – sorry.  So, hopefully these pictures give you some inspiration.

First Pinterest DIY

One of my co-workers turned me on to Pinterest a few months ago and I’ve pinned some great looking ideas and recipes. This is the first DIY that I’ve completed and I’m so excited about it. And by DIY, I mean I had my dad hang the curtain rod that we bought at Home Depot and I bought the vinyl decal from this Etsy shop and with the help of three other people, applied it.

If you’re interested in good looking (I’ll let you know if they really are when I get around to trying them) vegetarian recipes and some fun kid ideas, follow me on Pinterest: jenngator222.

Black Bean Burgers and Honey Nutters

Last night I made TWO new recipes from Whole Food Kitchen and both were awesome!
I made the Black Bean Burgers (uncooked in photo) and the Honey Nutters – which are peanut butter, maple syrup, graham cracker goodness! Sharing recipes has long been a part of this blog and it feels weird to post a food photo without a recipe. Since the recipes are from a paid workshop and copyrighted and I am a rule follower, I can’t share. But hopefully just seeing the names and photos is a little inspiring!

I’m super proud of myself for taking on so many new recipes. It’s nice and motivating that so many of them are hits.

First Height Measure

M got a beautiful growth chart for Christmas and we’ve just now gotten it hung up and done her first measure (at 19 months). If you like it, check out this illustrator and her other work.  So, at 19 months, she is just over 31 inches tall!

I made the Maple and Tamari Roasted Veggies again and this time served them over quinoa.  My 19-month old loved the quinoa, but wasn’t too interested in the veggies beyond a bite or two of butternut squash.  I was really surprised about the quinoa, but hey, whatever she wants to eat is great!

Mediterranean Pasta Toss

I continue to be amazed by the recipes in Whole Food Kitchen.  This one was super easy, especially because I did most of the prep, including cutting the veggies and cooking the beans, the night before.  I am still working on how long to soak beans and how long to cook them.  This was such an easy weeknight meal and so yummy.  Wish I could share the recipe . . . Miss M loved the white beans (I used navy) and ate them like candy.  I liked the sundried tomatoes and olives, both of which are not my favorite.  I’m glad I tried something that I wasn’t sure I’d like.  This workshop is awesome.  Not only is it making me try new things now, it’s giving me so many fun things to try later.  There is no way with my lack of free time that I could make all these recipes in a week or try all these new things.  Looking forward to baking my own bread and making my own almond milk – but not sure it’s all going to happen in the next 8 weeks!

19 Months Old

Miss M is 19 months old and is doing new things every single day.

  • She stopped and said “cheese” for this photo.
  • She says “MINE” a lot – I think as a result of being in the toddler room now, where the kids are more verbal.
  • As of this weekend, she answers with her name when you ask her, “What’s your name?”
  • Just this morning she called “Mommy!” from her crib instead of her normal just screaming and crying (she never wakes up cooing or talking to herself, always crying).
