Chocolate Banana Rice Pudding

20120328-203246.jpgI’ve never been a fan of rice or bread pudding. I love sweets and I love carbs but maybe not together like this. As I get older and wiser, rice pudding is growing on me. I thought I’d give this recipe a try and it’s pretty good. The only thing was that there were a few judgement calls to make regarding thickness and I was clueless! Big news around here is that M is pretty much drinking only out of a cup (thanks to daycare) and she’s the
proud owner of a potty she refuses to sit on. Oh well. Oh, and she has all her teeth except her two year molars.

New Game

R has an upcoming recital at our local Unitarian Church, so he’s been practicing bass a lot in the living room during the evenings.  M has found a new game.  She runs around him, then squeezes through his legs, runs around him again and squeezes through his legs again, and again, and again.  M and I are going to make an attempt to go to the recital.  It feels like a nice comfortable place to go, somewhere I am familiar with should I need to leave the recital quickly (with a screaming kiddo).  I hope because it’s close to bedtime that she’ll be mellow and we’ll both get to enjoy the whole thing.

Saturday Morning Lessons

R teaches bass lessons at our home on Saturday and sometimes it’s hard to get M to stop trying to get R and his student’s attention.  This past Saturday I tried bringing her bathroom stool over in front of the french doors, got her a snack and asked her to please be quiet and listen to Daddy teach.  It worked for a few minutes.

Spring Preview

Last week we had a little spring preview.  M enjoyed her first cake pops and we got the swings out from the garage! Now all she can say is “outside, outside, outside!”  This week, it’s nice and chilly again.

Quinoa Bites and Lunch Box Noodles

I made two really, really easy recipes from Whole Food Kitchen last night – both perfect for taking in lunches.  I made a slight modification on the Quinoa Bites – since I had a quinoa/brown rice mix instead of pure quinoa.  I can’t believe how easy and delicious the Lunch Box Noodles were – soba noodles with a nice peanut/chili sauce.

Yoga Toddler

My yoga baby is now a yoga toddler!  I got the scoop on a company that makes eco-friendly yoga mats for kids from a yogi friend of mine and ordered one for M.  We got it out a few days ago and she laid right down for a nap.  Perhaps it looks like her cot at school?

Surprisingly enough when her R said, show us your Downward Dog, she knew just what to do!

Peach/Blueberry Crisp and Homemade Granola

This weekend I tried two more recipes from Whole Food Kitchen.  The first was a peach and blueberry crisp.  I can never get peaches right.  I always cut them too soon, or let them go two long.  In this case, at least two of them had several rotten spots.  Someone in the nourishment circle community said they used frozen fruit and while good, it was a little too runny.  I used fresh for both and it was great!  R and I could have easily killed this thing in one sitting.

I also made homemade granola.  I cannot believe I’ve never done this before.  It was SO easy and it’s so delicious.  I am never buying store bought granola again.  Can’t wait to eat it all week!

Awesome weekend spent training to become certified to teach yoga.  Only three more weekends.  Can’t it go on forever?  I’m already sad thinking about not having one weekend retreat a month and not seeing all those wonderful like-minded people once a month.  We teach to the public again in April and I can’t wait.  This time we sequence our own class!

Kale Chips, Chicken Salad and French Toast Casserole

I’m super behind on my Whole Food Kitchen cooking, but we’ve been a little under the weather over here.  Last weekend I made Pizza Kale Chips.  They were delish – but by the next day they were soggy.  I should have eaten them all in one sitting!

Other recent non-Whole Food Kitchen cooking includes Curried Chicken Salad with Mango Chutney Dressing from Raising the Salad Bar and Overnight Caramel French Toast (recipe shared by Colleen).

Children’s Museum Weekend

This past weekend we hit up two local kids museums – lots of fun!  Next on our list – the aquarium!

Fever? Out of Sorts? Teething?

What the heck is wrong with this poor girl?  She was sent home from daycare on Monday with a fever of 103 and is just not herself.  She’s got two canine teeth just about the break through and doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with her, so I can’t help but wonder if this is a wicked bad case of teething?!  Whatever it is, be gone!
