Finally Some Love!

Finally, M is showing S some love again!  I think it must be because S is now sitting up unaided, but M is finally showing some interest again in her baby sister. On Saturday night we had S sitting up on the floor while we ate a pretty informal dinner. She started crying and M went over and sat next to her, saying, “Don’t worry, I’m here. It’s ok.” We all just stopped eating and silently watched.  It was like we were watching an animal do something – we didn’t dare move or say anything and upset the absolutely adorable exchange. S stopped crying and just smiled at her sister – so excited that she was finally getting some attention from her. She hadn’t asked to hold her in a long time and had said no every time we asked, but this weekend she finally asked to hold her. I haven’t been pushing it, but it had been something I was starting to get a little worried about, especially since they’re about to be apart a lot more with school starting for M in a little over a week. M hadn’t been interested in kissing her goodnight, but is now doing that again! This newfound interest in her sister is so cool to watch! Look how big S looks in this photo. She only weighs 9 lbs less than M.

Farm Day

Our local Children’s Museum had an awesome fundraiser at a local farm yesterday. I was hesitant to go because I just wasn’t feeling like braving any big crowds. Upon arrival I was worried – long line for the shuttle, lots of cars, kids everywhere, dark clouds in the sky. But we went for it. And I’m so glad we did.  There was so much to do and it was all so nicely spaced out around the farm. This farm is a dairy farm and they make their own ice cream. It was all you can eat ice cream and it was SOOOOOO good. It was especially good since this was probably the first (and second) bowl of ice cream I’ve had since going back on dairy. M was so excited that they had a dunk tank. She’d seen one in one of her Curious George books but didn’t really know what it was. We showed her a video on youtube, but there’s nothing like seeing something like that in person. She also got to ride a pony – a first for her! They had a fun bluegrass band and she loved dancing.  Because this was a pretty big local event, we ran into lots of people we knew. It was a very fun day and we’ll plan to go again next year!

M’s Garden

Our garden has been such a joy this year even though we had some duds. The tomatoes were not nearly as great as they’ve been in years past, but they are finally starting to turn red. The squash and zucchini just never happened, but the rest has made up for it! We’ve had so many flowers (zinnias) that we’ve been passing them out to neighbors, co-workers weekly. We’ve had a ton of green beans (see photo) and even some mini eggplant. M just loves tending to the flowers and picking and preparing the beans.

On a side note, I had this amazing dinner at bookclub last night. So yummy! I’ll be making this one soon.

She Sits Up

We’re calling it at just over 7 months. She sits up! I should say, she stays sitting up. She doesn’t get sitting up by herself. I remember this time with M thinking – wow, she’s finally joined the room. And it feels the same with S. Instantly it feels like M is paying more attention to her. Wahoo!

Blackberry Picking

A week or so ago I got the itch for some late summer fun. So, we packed everyone up after dinner on a Thursday night and went blackberry picking. A good time was had by all.

Sitting up

It’s hard to leave my girls in the morning, but getting photos like this while I’m at work really makes me smile! My mom emailed this to me with the caption “look who I found sitting up in her crib after her nap!” S will sit up if you put her in a sitting position, and she’ll even stay that way for a few minutes. She’ll get off balance and fall over, or she’ll reach for something and move onto her tummy, but never before has she moved from laying down to sitting up. I bet we’ll be seeing that soon, unless this was a total fluke. I can just hear her thoughts – how in the heck did I get in this position and how do I lay back down!?

Fairy Godmother

I took M to see R play in the pit at Cinderella a few weeks ago. Then, in New Hampshire a few weekends ago, her cousin got her all decked out in this get-up with wings, crown and wand. You should have seen the super adorable twirl she did – exactly like they did in the play! Here she is mid-twirl. I only wish the photo had come out better, or maybe that I had a video of it. So adorable!

Baby’s Best Friend

S has really started paying attention to the animals. She loves watching the cat, especially if you’re holding (or nursing) her on the couch and the cat walks across the back of the couch. These photos don’t even begin to show how cute it was when S rolled herself over onto Izzie’s leg. Izzie is so gentle, but it still sometimes amazes me that I let this 60lb animal cuddle up to my baby daughter. It helps that Izzie likes the smell of baby poop and spit up – yuck!

7 Months Old

Miss S is 7 months old! She weighs 16 lbs. I know her weight because we had her in to the doctor this week because she still can’t seem to get the pooping thing going. Every since she started baby food she’s been pretty stopped up. But that’s another story and probably not one for public consumption.  But let’s just say I’ve been wondering if you can buy stock in prunes.  She’s all over the place when you put her down, rolling herself across the room and reaching for things. We think she’ll be crawling pretty soon.  She loves watching the cat, the dog and her sister. She’s a fan of prunes, pears, squash and sweet potatoes. She did not love the green beans, peas or chicken. She gives us a good amount of smiles, but is not a big laugher. She’s more quiet and contemplative.  She’s an observer, a people watcher. She doesn’t really want anyone to hold her except me, R, my mom or my dad.  She’s always reaching for things and it’s pretty hard to sit with her in your lap at the dinner table. She’s starting to say “ma, ma, ma, ma, ma.”

Summer New Hampshire Trip

We’d planned to go to NH for 4th of July as we normally do, but M’s tonsils took precedence.  I’m glad we took care of those earlier in the summer – so glad! So, we finally made it to NH for one night in mid-August instead. We made it there in time for the Farmers’ Market and ate our way through that – blueberry pie, kettle corn, cookies, but no waffles this year! We enjoyed a walk to my Aunt’s family’s dairy farm where we saw a bunch of cows. We even saw a bunch of calves, one of which was only two days old. I was hoping to get M to overcome her fear of cartoon cows. She did pretty well although she would not leave my mom’s arms or touch any of the cows. She still doesn’t love them, but she was not totally terrified, so I’m counting it as a win.
