Cousins

When I was a kid, I was lucky enough to live close enough to some of my cousins that we were able to see them for dinner any weekend night we’d like.  Another group of cousins lived a mere half day car ride away and I loved going to spend time with them, especially on longer visits during the summer.  I loved the hustle and bustle of their house of multiple children with people always coming and going.  I also grew up with cousins in two New England locations and we managed to see each of them every other year or so, with us taking trips up there way, or them heading down our way.

As an adult, I am thankful to live less than 4 hours away from my cousins in New Hampshire and their home has become a lovely place to go when we need to disconnect and unwind.  I continue to grow closer to my cousin in New York, and look forward to going to her wedding this year!  And two of my cousins have lived in Boston, with one of them recently heading back south.  Luckily, my only female cousin on that side remains in Boston and within quick driving distance!

Since I have no siblings, M probably won’t ever have as many cousins as I do.  She has two female cousins and we spent such great quality time with them over the break.  She loved every minute of it, did a great job sharing, and even gave out kisses and hugs.  And her cousins did such a great job keeping her entertained and safe (in houses with stairs, etc.).  I’m thankful everyone was so happy together and we sure do wish we all lived closer so the girls could see each other more often.

Holiday Card Re-Use

Every year when I take down the Christmas decorations I am always so sad to throw away (recycle) the holiday cards.  This is especially true when we go away for the holiday and don’t get to spend as much time looking at them.  My aunt has been known to take old holiday cards, tear off the top part with the picture and use them as postcards to invite people to their annual January Full Moon Party/Bonfire.  This year, I decided to take her idea, and use the holiday cards as thank you postcards.  I hope everyone likes them!

Thank you to all of our friends and family for their many generous gifts.  We enjoyed catching up with everyone in Florida, and are happy to be back home, cuddled up in the cold.

Christmas Trip to Paradise

This Christmas, we headed to Florida to be with our family.  At the holidays, I am even more thankful that Ryan and I are from the same town.  There is no question about where we will go.  We enjoyed visiting for over a week, and now it’s time to head home.  I’m ready to go home, but not ready to leave.  We’ve had so much wonderful family time.

‘Tis the Season

For the past (almost) 4 months I have felt like I couldn’t get ahead, and in fact felt way behind.  I’ve missed birthdays, I’ve forgotten play dates, I’ve had trouble remembering my name.  But finally I feel like I am ahead of the game on something.  Well, at least not behind anyway.  I have a lot of my Christmas shopping done!  But, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas cards.  For the past several years that we’ve lived up North, we’ve included a snap shot in our cards.  R and I take a photo of ourselves in the snow.  Our friends and family down South think this is pretty funny since some of them have never even seen snow!   This year, I’m really hoping it snows one big snow pretty soon, or else we’re going to have to figure something else out because I want to get going on the holiday cards soon!  And I really want M’s first appearance on our Holiday card to be special!

I just heard a promotion that Shutterfly.com is having – they are giving bloggers 50 free holiday cards for exploring and then promoting their site.  What better motivation to get going on my holiday card!  I think I’ll choose one with a single picture, and probably get the matte version.  I prefer a simple design without a lot of clutter.  And oh my goodness, these Holiday party invitations almost make me want to have one!  Oh and I love these calendars!  Maybe next year once I have enough pictures of Miss M from each season I will make one for the grandparents.  I’ve had the desk version sitting on my desk all year, with each month highlighting a piece of art made by my nieces and it’s just so neat!

I figure, I can go to shutterfly.com and pick out my card, get everything all ready and then plug in the snow picture when we get one!  If not, we might ALL have to sit on Santa’s lap!
